Deworming

Dogs and cats often carry digestive parasites. There are different parasites species: Ascaris, strangles, tenias, … Your pets contaminate themselves in their environment or at their mother’s contact for puppies and kittens. A deworming treatment is needed regularly. It is also possible to make feces analysis to verify the presence of parasite eggs or larvae. We advise you to deworm your pet against digestive parasites every month until 6 months old, and then every 3 to 6 months depending on their exposition level and health state.

In Viet Nam, there is also a parasite called heartworm or dirofilariasis. The larvae are transmitted by a mosquito bite, which means that even if your pet does not come out, he/she is exposed. The adult worms are large and live in the heart chambers and pulmonary arteries. The infestation by these parasites can provoke a serious disease, which may begin by a long asymptomatically period (sometimes several years). Regular worming every month prevents the development of larvae into adults. It should be noted that the death of an adult worm in the heart of your animal can have serious side effects, by causing obstruction of an artery or vein, hence the importance of killing the larvae before they become adults.

In conclusion, if you live in Viet Nam, the right rhythm for deworming your pet is once a month
